Eastern Crane Hire Unveils Volvo FH 460 with Palfinger PK 53002 SH at Truckfest Scotland

Eastern Crane Hire has officially taken delivery of its latest flagship vehicle at Truckfest Scotland – a Volvo FH 460 8x2 32t Cheesewedge crane truck, purpose-built and fitted with a Palfinger PK 53002 SH High Performance crane. Supplied and prepared by MV Commercial, this vehicle is set to enhance operational flexibility while expanding Eastern Crane Hire’s capabilities in the crane-assisted transport sector.

Heavy-Duty Capability

The truck is configured with a PK 53002 SH crane, offering 53 tonne-metres of lifting power with Palfinger’s renowned High Performance hydraulic system. This provides smooth, efficient, and precise handling even at extended reaches – a critical factor for lifting operations in restricted urban and industrial sites.

“We’ve built our business over nine years around mobile cranes. But with some softening in the mobile market, now was the right time to diversify into a truck-mounted solution. The FH 460 allows us to complement our existing fleet while opening up new opportunities.”

Specialist Build

The Volvo FH 460 chassis was supplied by MV Commercial, a long-standing partner to the lifting and logistics industries. Working with Frruehauf Body Systems, MV oversaw the integration of the Palfinger crane and the cheesewedge body along with a range of operator-focused enhancements, including:

• Kelsa light bars front, top, and side – with integrated strobes and laser lights for improved visibility and safety.

• A full AST-designed livery wrap, providing high-impact branding wherever they are.

• Custom touches to ensure the unit is both practical for heavy lifting operations and visually striking on the road.

Strategic Expansion

Eastern Crane Hire’s fleet already includes five mobile cranes and two spider cranes, positioning the company as a versatile player in the lifting sector. The addition of a truck-mounted crane allows the business to compete in sectors where flexibility, speed of deployment, and combined haulage-lift services are increasingly in demand.
